Do You Know Whose Effort Truly Changes You?

Have you also noticed that the most effective method to increase your grasp on what you read is 85% ascribed to a certain practice ?

It’s true ; about 85% of productive reading comes from a single technique called Retrieval Practice – the art of regurgitating the information you have fed your brain while reading .

Let just any student do that and see what happens ; according to Louis Nizer , the greatest lawyer of the 20th century :

It will turn the dull mind into a bright mind ;

It will turn the bright mind into a brilliant mind ;

It will turn a brilliant person into a steadfast person .

And there is a reason why ?

The practice of retrieval takes effort ; and that’s why the miracle happens. In the process of retrieval, part of you is knitted into the information for successful retrieval .

That’s why the effort that changes you is essentially not of the author but of you .

Many people read , but only a few have an understanding of what they read , and they are those who practice the skill of retrieval .

The philosopher, Emerson testified of this effort in his book , Self-Reliance :

There comes a time in every man’s education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion; that though the wide universe is full of good , no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till .

That’s the effort that changes you – where there’s an investment of you in the process and it takes something of you to achieve an outcome .

What about King David in the Holy Scriptures ?

He also knew of the effort that changes situation of great concern in his reign in Israel :

And the King said to Araunah , Nay ; but I will surely buy it of you at a price: neither will I offer a burnt offering unto the Lord my God of that which cost me nothing .

Only those effort to achieve anything that has you in them can change you and make you better.

And the situation changes when the man or woman changes . For when the man is right , his world also will be right .

The Effort that Truly Changes You is Yours .

To Your Success,

Joshua Idegbere .

    Effort like writing, or painting, or dance or music or healing – where the result can only come from the effort; even if it’s of getting / letting oneself into the flow or zone 😊 Nice!
