There’s a quote of Conor Neil I read this morning where he said :
“No matter where you are, a little more discipline will change the trajectory of your life.”
Discipline is quite very important but there is more to it if you wish to live the life of your dreams.
The truth is, discipline alone is not enough to change the trajectory of your life .
The journey of life and success is like a race where you need two legs to run .
Discipline is one . The other is your psychology – how you have trained your mind to see and interpret them .
Sometimes, the pursuit of dreams could be so frustrating that discipline alone can’t stand it .
Your psychology will help you to absorb the shocks of failing as you pursue your dreams .
“And so in the strife of the battle of life
It’s so easy to fight when you’re winning;
It’s so easy to slave, and starve and be brave,
When the dawn of success is beginning.
But the man who can meet despair and defeat
With a cheer, there’s the man of God’s choosing:
The man who can fight to heaven’s own height
Is the man who can fight when he’s losing.”
It takes seeing failures and heartbreak and disappointments and betrayals differently to make it one this path you have chosen.
Sometimes you will have to blog for months with nothing to show as rewards for effort. Anthony Moore blogged for four and a half years with a very little reward for his efforts.
It takes more than discipline to hang in there after such blows .
While you need discipline to maintain your blows , you need a healthy psychology to absorb it when life blows you . And life is going to blow you a whole lot in the pursuit of your dreams .
Here’s what Mrs Mummy Brown told his son , Les Brown , after they were told to get out of the house he was proud to have bought for the mom :
” Son , keep your head up . You are going to fail your way to success. So hold your head up ! “
At those times, it takes more than discipline to push through .
A wise man once said, Success is moving from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.”
But you don’t need discipline to do that : you need a healthy psychology to see failure not as an enemy but as an opportunity to try again better .
If you think it was discipline that enabled Thomas Edison to try nine hundred and ninety nine time and fail in trying to invent a light bulb, then you missed it .
It wasn’t discipline – it was a healthy psychology .
Your mental state is far more important than the efforts you make in making your dreams come through. So develop it .
At the end of the day , it’s our ability to manage failure until we achieve success that count . And that takes not just discipline but discipline with a healthy psychology – a different way of seeing and interpreting life events and outcomes.
To Your Success,
